LATEST NEWS

12-mar-2006

Sorry to get your hopes up, but this is the server administrator. I'm asking anyone who knows how to contact DoctorM to drop me an email (darkmane -at- harmlesslion.com). I haven't heard from him in over two years now. His stuff, especially Brutal, still generates over 700MB a day in traffic. I don't really mind, but I'd like to know what he's up to! (And hey, I want to see updates too ;) ).

I uploaded a preview of Robo Toy (that unnamed platform game I mentioned).
If you feel like trying out a couple of levels and a boss, get the preview here.
Please let me know if you liked it, or if you had any problems, by posting in the forum.

Have fun!

Hi!
Sorry for the delay and lack of updates these months. I've started a lot of projects, most of them very time consuming. I managed to work a little bit on every game, mostly FX-Ball 2. This month no big progress will be made, since I'll be fully working on 2 big music productions, and they might require a lot of my time.

However, I might finish the unnamed platform game in these days, at least a preview will be released.
Here's my current WIP report:

FX-BALL 2

The basic engine is done (a little improvement from FXB1), the main feature is multiple paddle types and game modes. I'm trying to figure out how to globalize the levels so they can be played in all the layouts (number and positions of paddles) and game types (the scoring rules).

I chose Ogg Vorbis as the new music format, and it's already implemented, allowing to add any custom mp3 or ogg files to the playlist.

I'm right now designing the user interface, the menus.
The level editor can now make an entire episode, with any number of levels you want. Since I'm lazy, it's quite featureless (like level delete and move), but functional.

UNNAMED PLATFORM GAME

I posted a few shots some months ago, I'm now finishing the second episode of the 3 planned. It's going to be a short game I guess. I'll release a 3 episode version in these days I hope, and I'll continue adding levels as I can.
By now it's done:

- 3D Rendered sprites, the hero, the enemies, almost everything.
- Very smooth platform engine, with special movements (double jumps, spin jumps, etc)
- Bubble bobble styled gameplay, go from one screen to the other.
- Massive sized bosses!
- 1 or 2 players (on the same computer)
- Customizable keyboard and joystick controls for both players.
- Some other surprises...

I'll make the 3rd episode in these days, and hopeflully release the game. Don't worry, this one will be completely free. And if I ever clean up the messy code, I'll release the source.

AGONY REMIX

This one is still in early stages. I am remaking one of Psygnosis' most beautiful games on the Amiga. Agony is a shooter, featuring an owl instead of the typical spaceships. The enemies are monsters like in Shadow of the Beast, beautiful. The graphics ruled at that time, and still do. But gameplay wasn't right.
You could finish the game by holding down the fire button and dodging bullets and baddies, rarely using the innovative (but mostly useless) spells.

So, I decided to remake it. I had a wondoerful experience remaking Brutal, and since this game is a lot more simpler, I accepted the challenge of making an enjoyable experience out of it.

By now I have ripped most of Stage 1, including backdrops, enemies, the hero sprite, some bullets and spells.
The most time consuming part of this game is the sprite ripping part. It's quite difficult to rip Amiga graphics in some situations, but it's nothing impossible.

I'll post some screenies in these days.

That's all for now.
I'll try to update the site more often, in the meantime visit the forum, and share your thoughts with other people.
Thanks for your time!

SOUNDTRACK PREVIEW
The Media section is now open! You'll find there an exclusive preview of the FX-Ball 2 soundtrack. Right now 2 tracks are available for your listening pleasure. Please post your thoughts in the forum.

Work on FXB2 continues, If everything goes well this week, I'll upload some screenies of my progress. I finally decided to drop the 3D rendered stuff, it was complicating things too much, and personally, I like retro-amiga-style graphics. There are plenty of breakout games with fancy graphics, but few with cool gameplay.

PREVIEW
I started working on a platform game!
Right now I'm designing more enemies, this is quite hard since I'm new to 3D graphics. The gameplay is solid (with a few bugs), so when a decent amount of levels and enemies is reached I'll make a demo available. Please post any questions or suggestions in the forum, thanks!

FX-Ball Secrets!
For all the people that can't figure out how to unlock any secret episode, here is the Secret section, with the tasks you have to complete in order to unlock them. Have fun!

FX-Ball 2 plans
While I work on the unnamed platform game, I'm also working on FX-Ball 2.
The most awaited and requested features, the level editor, is already being implemented in the engine. Some things are getting complicated, so the editor will be available as a separate program.
This is a brief list of the planned features:

- Level editor!!! (able to make levels for any paddle layout, from 1 to 4)
- Custom episodes
- Customizable bricks for user made levels
- New weapons
- More brick types
- Pre-rendered 3D graphics (this will take time...)
- Full length soundtrack

The downloads are now fixed, so if you experienced problems before, you can now freely download any of the games.
Two expansion packs are available for FX-Memory: New card sets and backgrounds.
Also, the winners of the FX-Ball contest were announced! Take a look here.
Since many people are asking about FX-Ball deluxe's secret levels, I'll soon write a strategy guide with a list of tasks to unlock the secret levels.
Have fun!
